Rep. Parisella honored as NSCC 2018 Distinguished Alumnus

State Representative Jerry Parisella, North Shore Community College Class of 1984, is the recipient of the  NSCC Alumni Association’s 2018 Distinguished Alumnus Award.  The Association presents this award annually at commencement to an NSCC graduate whose professional and personal achievements bring honor to themselves and the College.  Candidates are chosen on the basis of integrity, character, professional accomplishments, and college or community service.

Representative Parisella is serving his fourth term as the 6th Essex district representative in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He currently serves as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Public Service and, as such, has been supportive and immensely helpful to the college for working with its 300+ student veterans. He is also is an attorney in private practice, and former Assistant City Solicitor for the City of Salem and with the City of Beverly Law Department.

Jerry was born and raised in Beverly, went through the public school system and still lives and works there today.  He joined the Army Reserves in 1994, and still proudly serves today as a Lieutenant Colonel and Judge Advocate with the 3rd Legal Operations Detachment. In 2011 he deployed to Iraq with the 804th Medical Brigade where he served as a prosecutor and legal advisor, handling court martial appeals for the Army’s Legal Services Agency and providing legal assistance to soldiers and their families at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.

He is Chairman of the Veterans and Federal Affairs Committee, and has drafted legislation that provides Massachusetts veterans some of the nation’s leading benefits and services.

Jerry has extensive volunteer experience in his hometown, having served on the Kiwanis Club of Beverly Board of Directors, as a trustee at the Children’s Center for Communication/Beverly School for the Deaf and on the YMCA-City of Beverly Youth Collaboration Board. He also served on the Beverly Board of Health.
