On June 4, NSCC’s library will join HELM, Higher Ed Libraries in Massachusetts. NSCC is a founding member of HELM, along with Holyoke Community College, Mass Bay Community College, Mass College of Liberal Arts, Middlesex Community College, Quinsigamond Community College, and Roxbury Community College. We will be associated with these libraries in a way similar to our soon-to-end relationship with NOBLE libraries, sharing a catalog and other resources. We will also be associate members of Fenway Libraries Online, a network of 15 higher education and arts institutions in the Boston area. We’ll be sharing a new online catalog and library system better suited to the needs of academic libraries.
This change will help us better support the needs of our students, faculty and staff and will also enable us to increase resource sharing, leverage group purchasing power, and increase library staff opportunities for professional development.
We will continue to have an online library catalog and automated system, but our partner libraries will now be the new members of HELM instead of NOBLE.
On the way to the transitions, please note that:
On May 4, 2018, items checked out from other NOBLE Libraries will be due back to the library.
Community Patrons may no longer use their NOBLE cards at the NSCC library. Library users that are not current NSCC students, staff, or faculty will be unable to borrow items directly from our library We encourage community patrons to get a public library card from their local library.
NSCC Patrons will be unable to request items directly from the NOBLE catalog. NSCC patrons will be unable to borrow and request items from NOBLE libraries using their NSCC account and NSCC will no longer be able to receive returns for items belonging to NOBLE libraries.
NSCC patrons will be able to request materials outside of the new HELM network via the Commonwealth Catalog. During the transition to the new network, The Commonwealth Catalog will be unavailable for a brief period.
