North Shore Community College has developed a new training program for people interested in protecting the environment and public health in the water and wastewater field. NSCC’s Wastewater Workforce Training program begins March 11, 2013 and is comprised of 10 sessions held over an eight-week period.
The program includes online as well as instructor-led classes and includes hands-on demonstrations, field trips and career exploration. Program participants will learn Basic Wastewater Math, Basic Operation of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants (Grades 1-2), Operation and Maintenance of Centrifugal Pumps, OSHA 10 and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Standards.
These courses will provide the information required to take the Massachusetts Municipal Wastewater Grades 1 & 2 certification exam. Such certification, if awarded, can lead to entry-level employment in wastewater operations for municipal wastewater treatment plants as well as private companies with wastewater treatment operations.
Prerequisites for this program are a GED or high school diploma and English language proficiency. Some funding may be available for eligible participants.
