North Shore Community College (NSCC) has received a bronze level seal from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge which recognizes colleges and universities committed to increasing student voting rates.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge awards a bronze level seal to colleges and universities with student voter participation between 50-59%. NSCC’s student voting rates rose from 49.7% in the 2012 Presidential Election to 55.5% in the 2016 Presidential Election, an increase of 5.8%. NSCC was the only community college in Massachusetts identified as a seal or award recipient in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.
The All IN Campus Democracy Challenge, allinchallenge.org, is a national awards program that recognizes colleges and universities for their commitment to increasing student voting rates. The Challenge encourages higher education institutions to help students form the habits of active and informed citizenship, make democratic participation a core value on their campus, and cultivate generations of engaged citizens who are essential to a healthy democracy.
“Civic engagement is at the core of the college’s mission and values and this recognition illustrates that our students are learning and engaging in the many opportunities that are presented to them here. This makes all of us at NSCC very proud of our engaged student body,” said Dr. Patricia A. Gentile, President of NSCC.
