North Shore Community College (NSCC) was recently awarded $371,313 through multiple grants that will help support a number of initiatives including equipment for health care programs, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) early college programs, and a targeted summer program for English as a Second Language (ESL) students.
The MA Skills Capital Grant, in the amount of $111,000, will aid in the purchase of equipment and light renovation for space on NSCC’s Lynn Campus that will house a Universal Health Care Lab for credit and noncredit training as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Medical Assisting and Dental Assisting.
NSCC STEM early college programs in Lynn and Danvers will benefit from a MA Department of Higher Education (DHE) STEM Starter Academy Early College Pathways grant for $135,313. The Early College Program at NSCC allows qualified high school and home-schooled students to earn college credit while completing high school graduation requirements in a variety of ways.
A $125,000 MA DHE 2017 Performance Incentive Fund Program grant will aid ESL Project Complete, a targeted summer program for ESL students in Lynn with opportunities to earn college credit. The project also supports the development of a co-requisite ESL Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) course and cultural competency training for NSCC faculty and staff.
