North Shore Community College alum Anh Dao Tran Moseman of Sudbury, MA became the newest benefactor to the NSCC Foundation Scholarship Program by initiating two scholarships in honor of her family to support NSCC students.

Starting in 2014, the Uncommon Leader Scholarship Fund will benefit students in Engineering Science Transfer, Pre-Engineering, English as a Second Language, Bridges to the Stars and Health Professions programs. Applicants will be required to demonstrate at least one of the following characteristics including, leadership in difficult times, perseverance despite the odds, courage to stand up for their beliefs, commitment to community service and willingness to overcome barriers to pursue success in higher education. “Each of these personal traits were selected because they represent the characteristics demonstrated by my siblings who became very successful in their personal and professional careers, in their journeys of self-discovery and in their pursuits.” The Tran Phan family came to the United States in 1985 as refugees from Vietnam, under the sponsorship of the Holy Trinity Methodist Church in Danvers, MA.

The Tran Phan Family Scholarship will support students enrolled in NSCC’s Health profession programs. This endowed scholarship will support the mission of the NSCC Foundation for years to come.

“I decided to become a scholarship donor because I remember how difficult it was for my mom, my siblings and I to pursue our new life and good education in America. However, we could not have made it through without the consistent help and support from our church sponsors and the educators at North Shore Community College.  For that reason, I wanted to give back whatever I can so other students with similar challenges can start their new lives.”
