A new annual event, “Together NSCC Advances: Champions for North Shore Community College”, will launch on October 3, 2017 from 7:30 – 9 a.m. at the Boston Marriott Peabody, to showcase exceptional leaders on the North Shore and their impact on higher education.

Inaugural honorees to receive the NSCC Champions Award include: R.T. Paine & Barbara Metcalf of Beverly Farms, in recognition of significant philanthropy and volunteerism to the college; State Senator Thomas M. McGee for his public service and advocacy; and Eastern Bank in recognition of community impact.

“Paine and Barbara Metcalf are highly respected members of the North Shore community. A Corporate Vice President at UBS, Paine is a founding member of the NSCC Foundation, whose leadership contributed to the growth of the NSCC Foundation endowment, the establishment of a scholarship program for NSCC students, and other key initiatives,” said NSCC President Dr. Patricia A. Gentile.

She added, “State Senator Thomas M. McGee has been instrumental in ensuring access to higher education at the state level, continuing his father’s legacy as a champion for NSCC for whom the original Lynn Campus building is named.”

“It is an honor to celebrate Eastern Bank as a premiere leader for education. From scholarships to programmatic grants and capital support spanning four decades, Eastern Bank has been one of NSCC’s greatest champions for student success and ensuring access to higher education, particularly for low-to- middle income students from the region’s underserved communities,” said Gentile.

Over $280,000 in grants and contributions have been awarded by the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation to the NSCC Foundation for the advancement of the college and student success since 1984, most recently with a $10,000 grant award to support NSCC’s Latino/Hispanic College Success initiative through its 2017 Targeted Grant Program. In addition, Eastern Bank senior executives have served in a variety of leadership capacities ranging from the NSCC Board of Trustees to the NSCC Foundation Board of Directors and associated committees over the years.

Net proceeds from the event will benefit NSCC Foundation student success programs and initiatives, which in turn will continue to strengthen local communities and the regional economy.

“We hope this event will raise the profile of NSCC as an innovator in higher education while demonstrating to current and prospective supporters the transformational impact of philanthropy directed to the NSCC Foundation,” Gentile said. “As higher education becomes more costly and public funding continues to level or decline, it is paramount for the NSCC Foundation to grow its capacity through its endowment and special initiatives in order to be responsive to the needs of students and the college.”
