Nivedita “Bonie” Bagchi Williamson has been named Dean of Students at North Shore Community College (NSCC) in Danvers, MA. Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, Bagchi Williamson will oversee programs and services supporting student success,including the offices of Student Life, Health Services and Disability Services.
“I am excited about becoming a part of the community at NSCC and serving its students and other members of its community,” said Bagchi Williamson. “Strongly committed to social justice, I have spent many years serving traditionally underserved populations. North Shore Community College provides hope, access to education and social mobility for many students. Along with my staff, I hope to be able to challenge and support our students for future success.”
Bagchi Williamson comes to NSCC from Northern Essex Community College (NECC), where she was the Interim Dean of Student Life. Prior to NECC, she was the Program Coordinator with Saheli Boston and served as Vice President of Co-Curricular Life and Dean of Students at Fisher College. She has also held administrative positions at Boston University.
Her intellectual interests span both literature and higher education, particularly issues of race, class and gender; college student development and student success. Deeply committed to diversity, she serves as co-chair of the Diversity Task Group (Arlington Vision 2020) in Arlington. She also serves on the Superintendent’s Advisory Group on Diversity for the Arlington Public Schools.
Bagchi Williamson holds a doctorate in English from Boston University, where she specialized in postcolonial literature, focusing on Africa and the Caribbean. She earned a master’s in English and American Literature from Purdue University and a bachelor’s in English from St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata, India.
She resides in Arlington with her husband and three children.
