Nirwendjie Altidor, Salem, has received the Lisa Milso Award for Distinguished Service, presented at North Shore Community College’s recent 52nd annual Student Service Awards Ceremony. This annual award honors an “up and coming” student leader who demonstrates an outstanding spirit of service, along with kindness and concern for others.
The award is named for NSCC’s late Director of Student Life, Lisa Milso, who, throughout her more than 28 years at NSCC, touched the lives of countless students by listening and caring and encouraging them to get involved at the college and in the community.
Altidor’s nomination letters described her as “motivated, driven and focused – striving to get the best and most out of her experiences at NSCC.” Because she felt so strongly about the need for a Pre-Med club, she went on a one-woman campaign to reactivate the slowly declining club. Today, membership has grown and the club is thriving.
A student in the Health Science Program, Altidor serves as a member of the Student Government Association, and is a member of the Pre-Med Club, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Club, and is a member of the Sigma Alpha Pi and Phi Theta Kappa honor societies.
