Kelly M. Alvarez, of Salem, is this year’s Student Commencement Speaker. Kelly is graduating with a Criminal Justice degree, having completed her studies in two years with an overall GPA of 3.51. A single mother of two, Kelly has faced many obstacles to her progress, but persevered with determination to reach her goal of graduating from college. A less-than-ideal childhood instilled in her the dream to help youth, with a current career goal of working with juvenile delinquents in community settings. She believes, “People go through different things in life that can make or break them. It’s the choices you make that determine the direction your life will take. If young people don’t have guidance, they can wind up in the wrong crowd and make the wrong decisions. I want to work with this population as there is so much potential and ability to make a positive impact.”
Kelly looks forward to sharing with her fellow members of NSCC’s Class of 2017 her sincere belief that you really can do anything to which you put your mind!
Congratulations, Kelly and to NSCC’s Class of 2017!
