Gwendolyn Squires of Melrose is the recipient of North Shore Community College’s Director’s Award for Outstanding Dedication. This award annually recognizes and honors exceptionally dedicated students who work with diligence and tenacity to create, implement and stage college events.
Squires sense of community extends far beyond the clubs she belongs to and she can often be found volunteering at many college events. She is a member of the PTK Honor Society, the National Society of Leadership and Success, has been featured in the last two issues of Spark, the college’s literary magazine, is an active member of Queer Straight Alliance and a continual player in the Performing Arts Council.
Lisa Milso, NSCC Director of Student Life, in presenting the award noted, “Without fanfare or self-promotion Gwendolyn utilizes intuition, insight and extreme thoughtfulness to successfully develop and participate in meaningful programs. She steps up to be a leader when needed and is equally willing to be an enthusiastic supporter when called upon. She is not concerned simply with the production of programs and services, but is genuinely concerned with her peers’ experiences, and she strives to bring people together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and admiration. She is an outstanding advocate for the ideals of individuality, diversity and civility.”
